At NEIL, We strive to excel the state of the art understanding of brain function in the events of trauma. Our key principles are laid on interdisciplinary collaboration among science, technology and engineering to conduct studies with values translatable to clinical interventions. NEIL’s studies involve accurate experimental design, laboratory testing on animal or human subjects, advanced data analysis, clinical translation and next level planning.

Postdoctoral position in Neuroimaging of Concussive Brain Injury at UCLA

A postdoctoral position is currently available for an NIH funded project investigating glial biomarkers of brain injury from blood, behavior and neuroimaging readouts. The projects involve MRI structural parameters of TBI pathology (swelling, haem, white matter pathology) combined with task-based cognitive analysis. The work will be conducted on a Bruker 7T in vivo imaging spectrometer, with possibilities for 2-photon imaging studies for single cell functional connectomics. Blood-based biomarkers will proceed in collaboration with another lab (Wanner, UCLA).

The position is for a candidate with a PhD in neuroscience, neurobiology, medical physics, electrical engineering or other related scientific discipline, who has prior training and experience with either surgery and behavior, high field MRI systems, signal processing analytics, or 2-photon experience. Ideally the candidate will also possess the ability to perform data and statistical analysis using Matlab, Python, and/or R, and any of the major neuroimaging software. In addition, the candidate will have significant research experience that has led to publications in quality peer-reviewed journals, as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

Positions available now in the Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA, Los Angeles, California. Salary will be commensurate with the level of training and experience.

To apply, send cover letter, curriculum vitae, and personal statement of research to: Dr. Neil Harris: ngharris(at)ucla.edu

Postdoctoral position: 2-Photon Imaging of Concussive Brain Injury at UCLA

A postdoctoral position is currently available for a project investigating neuronal and glial network dynamics after concussive brain injury using 2-photon microscopy and functional MRI readouts.  The work will be conducted on a new 2-photon microscope within the Brain Injury Center and on a 7Tesla MRI spectrometer. The 2-photon work will proceed in collaboration with other existing 2-photon laboratories at UCLA, but the ideal Neuroscience candidate will already possess in vivo 2-photon imaging skills along with fluency in signal processing analytics using Matlab, Python, and/or R. In addition, the candidate will have significant research experience that has led to publications in quality peer-reviewed journals, as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
